When you've been a designer for decades, you tend to collect a large amount of image assets. And I'm a bit of a digital hoarder. In the winter of 2023, I challenged myself to create one collage a day for as long as I could, using imagery found in Flickr's Creative Commons collection or stock elements purchased for client projects.
To keep myself from getting too precious about details, I imposed the following constraints: 1) keep the workflow on my phone, 2) use an app that would force me to work within its limits (in this case, AdobeExpress, which has simple layering and fx filters), and 3) don't spend more than 30-60 minutes on the composition. Results were immediately posted to Instagram without expectation. Work small. Work quick. Let it go. At the end of this experiment, I had a small body of work that formed a large (and popular) part of a print sale I undertook to raise funds for a major move.
